Based on Raag Iman and Taal Kaharwa, this song was first sung on December 28, 1911, at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress. Though often mistakenly believed to be a eulogy for King George V, Tagore himself clarified in a 1937 letter that the song addresses the “Eternal Charioteer” of human destiny, not any earthly emperor.

১. প্রথম স্তবকে তিনি ভারতের ভৌগোলিক বৈচিত্র্য—পাঞ্জাব, সিন্ধু থেকে বাংলা এবং হিমালয় থেকে মহাসাগর পর্যন্ত—বিশাল ভূখণ্ডকে এক সুতোয় বেঁধেছেন এবং ভাগ্যবিধাতার জয়গান করেছেন।
২. দ্বিতীয় স্তবকে তিনি ভারতের ধর্মীয় ও সাংস্কৃতিক ঐক্যের কথা বলেছেন। হিন্দু, বৌদ্ধ, শিখ, জৈন, মুসলিম, খ্রিস্টান—সবাই তাঁর আহ্বানে সাড়া দিয়ে প্রেমহারে গাঁথা হয়ে তাঁর সিংহাসনের পাশে সমবেত হয়।
